The Tar Heels or the Blue Devils?

UNC vs. Duke
The rivalry between the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University is one of the biggest rivalries in North America that has been going on for one year short of a century. After their first meeting in January of 1920, the 8-mile stretch that separates the two schools has done nothing but create more tension and add to the rivalry. They have met a total of 248 times, with UNC winning 137 of the games and Duke trailing behind with 111 wins.

The UNC vs. Duke match has generated such a large fan base and revenue making the minimum of two games every season looked forward to by many.  Ever since the first game in 1920, which UNC won, there have been high tensions between the two teams and fan bases which has led to many game incidents ranging from full on fights on the court to broken noses. Students at the two universities live in tents outside the stadiums for days leading up to the games in hopes of gaining admittance.

The two teams have always remained close in title game statistics throughout their many years competing. Together, they hold 49 ACC titles for the regular season along with 38 ACC tournament titles. Carolina leads with twenty appearances in the Final Four and six NCAA championships, while Duke weighs in with sixteen appearances in the Final Four and five NCAA national championships.

I chose to focus this blog post on the UNC vs. Duke rivalry because of the upcoming rivalry game which will take place this upcoming Wednesday (February 20th). As I am a very dedicated Tar Heels fan, I am hoping UNC will add another great win to the rivalry and give me a great blog post for next week!
